Trimming

The head, tail and fore-edge are cut after sewing, by plough or guillotine, so the leaves align. A book may be left untrimmed, with its bolts and deckles, when the printing allows it.

A demonstration: the craft terms are real, the site is invented. Built by plinth from EDN and Markdown; every page is complete without scripts.
