Laced-in boards

The cords the sections were sewn on are frayed, pasted and laced through holes in the boards, then hammered flat. The boards are part of the sewing structure, which is why such bindings last for centuries.

A demonstration: the craft terms are real, the site is invented. Built by plinth from EDN and Markdown; every page is complete without scripts.
