Bradel binding

A German structure in which the boards and a stiff spine piece are first linked by a strip of paper or cloth, then the whole case is covered. The boards sit a little away from the spine, giving a flexible hinge.

A demonstration: the craft terms are real, the site is invented. Built by plinth from EDN and Markdown; every page is complete without scripts.
