Awl

A pointed steel tool set in a wooden handle. At the sewing frame it pierces the sewing stations through a folded section, following the marks of the pricking template, so the needle meets no resistance.

Keep it sharp: a blunt awl tears the fold rather than parting the fibres.

A demonstration: the craft terms are real, the site is invented. Built by plinth from EDN and Markdown; every page is complete without scripts.
